Bangladesh is an over populated country of which 46% are children. Health facilities for these vast numbers are absolutely meagre, particularly in Chittagong. On 31st December, 1979 in the International Year of Children, a group of social workers of Chittagong under the leadership of Dr. A.F.M Yusuf, a renowned Physician, started the hospital in an unfinished and dilapidated abandoned Central Govt. Employees Hospital building at Agrabad. In 1979, the Out-patient Department (OPD) was opened to provide free medical treatment for the children and thus, the Journey started to establish a full-fledged children Hospital in Chittagong. So, the Chittagong Shishu Hospital came into being in 1979 which has been registered under the Directorate General of social welfare, Govt. of Peoples Republic of Bangladesh. In 1985, the Indoor medical service started its functioning with 10 beds to provide free treatment for the poor children and gradually different departments are added with the out-door and in-door services. In 2024, with addition of all services it is named as 899 bedded "Chattagram Maa-Shishu O General Hospital".
Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital is a non-profitable, non-political and non-Government organization which is run by public charity. People from all walks of life home and abroad, specially the people of Chittagong have great contribution to keep it rolling ahead for the prosperity and development of this organization. Following the constitution of Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital, the election is held in every three years to elect a 22-members Executive Committee by nearly ten thousand above life members. The Executive Committee/Trustee Board is sub-grouped to distribute the various functions of the hospital. Life members are the main driving force.
The hospital has been running with the donated funds collected from the philanthropists, industrialists and other organizations of home and abroad in the form of Zakat, Donations, Life Members fees and the profit earning from Fixed Deposits in Banks in addition to its own revenue earning sources.

1. Chattagram Maa-Shishu O General Hospital
This institution, built gradually, has been recognized as a 899-bed general hospital at home and abroad. Air-Conditioned cabins. All the departments are manned and managed by specialists and trained residents. Now the total workforce of 3000 including sufficient number of experienced and trained Doctors, Professors, Consultant, Nurses and other officers and staffs are working in this hospital to provide best possible services to the patients in both Out-door and In-door departments.
2. Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Medical College :
Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Medical College established in May 2006 with 50 students with a view to providing medical education of international standard. Now 18th Batch of 115 students got admitted in July 2023 . The Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Medical College started functioning on 03.06.2006 following the course curriculum compiled and promulgated by BM&DC and approved by the Chittagong Medical University and University of Chittagong. The Medical College is approved by the Govt. of the peoples Republic of Bangladesh, affiliated with the Chittagong Medical University/University of Chittagong and under the process of recognition by the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BM&DC). Rocognised and enlisted in World Health Organisation (WHO) - The Avicenna Directory of Medical Schools. Enlisted in International Medical Education Directory (IMED) . Member of Bangladesh Private Medical College Association . Recognition of Trainings in this hospital are recognised by the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) for FCPS Part-II (Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Gynae & Obstetrics, Paediatric Surgery, Neurology, Paediatrics, Radiology & Imaging, Neonatology, Paed. Critical Care Medicine, Radiotherapy and Anaesthesiology) examinations .A major part of the Medical College fund has been utilised for the development (New Academic Building) to expand the overall facilities for the patients of Chattagram Maa-Shishu O General Hospital after meeting the necessary expenditures of the college.
3. Chattogram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Nursing Institute.
A Nursing Training Centre has been running since 1989 for catering the demand of the skilled nurses of the hospital and till then 99 students have been absorbed in service as staff nurse after successful completion of 4 year rigorous course in Nursing Science and Midwifery. Now CMOSH Nursing Institute has been running its 3 years course curriculum on ‘Diploma in Nursing Science & Midwifery’ duly approved by the Bangladesh Nursing Council .
4. Shamsun Nahar Khan Nursing College.
Shamsun Nahar Khan Nursing College is another prestigious project of Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital. This college has been functioning since 2016-2017 with 22 students with a view to provide nursing education of International standard. Every year 50 HSC passed students get enrollment. It's approved by the Chittagong Medical University, University of Chittagong, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Bangladesh Nursing Council .
5. Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Institute of Child Health :
The CMOSH Institute of Child Health has been running the post-graduate diploma course “Diploma in Child Health (DCH)” since 1997 with a view to improving the child health where in 6 doctors are recruited for this course every year and this course has got the approval of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, BM&DC, BSMMU and the Chittagong University.MD course has already started its activities and got admitted two students .
