On 31 December, 1979 “The International Year of Children”, a group of dedicated social workers of Chattogram
under the leadership of Late Dr. A.F.M Yusuf started the hospital in an unfinished, dilapidated and abandoned
central government employees hospital building at Agrabad. The Out-patient department (OPD) opened to
provide free medical treatment to the children. In 1985, the Indoor medical services started functioning with 10
beds to provide free treatment to the poor children. Now it is 850 bedded full edged tertiary care hospital.
It is a non-profitable, non-political and non-Government organisation which is managed by public charity.
Following the constitution of the Hospital, the election is held in every three years to elect the members of
Executive Committee/Trustee Board by nearly 9788 life members. This elected body consists of 24
philanthropist members who manage and monitor all activities voluntarily.
Annual General meeting is scheduled in mid June every year for major policies and decisions regarding finance,
management and other related affairs of all the projects of Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital. Life members
are the main driving force.
The dynamic leadership of the Executive Committee of Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital has made possible
to flourish it as a giant medical service organisation from a tiny effort and it is expected that soon it would
become a model “Medical Village” of International standard.
Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital is our parent organisation, approved & registered by the Social Welfare
Department of People's Republic of Bangladesh and by the Directorate General of Health Services. It
incorporates Chattagram Maa-Shishu O General Hospital, Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Medical College,
Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Nursing Institute, Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Institute of Child
Health, Shamsun Nahar Khan Nursing College, Institute of Autism & Child Development, Cancer Hospital &
research Center and Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Medical College Dental Unit.
1. Chattagram Maa-Shishu O General Hospital
All the departments are managed by specialists and trained physicians. Now the total workforce is 1980.
Professors, Consultants, Nurses, other officers and ancillary staffs are working in this Institute to provide
best possible services to the patients in both Out-door and In-door departments. Average patients in the
OPD is 1800-2000 daily. All supporting services (Ambulance, Standby Generator, telecommunication and
uninterrupted water supply) are available round the clock. As per rules of Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare, we have provided 10% free beds for poor & distressed patients of the country.
2. Corona Epidemic Situation
In view of the ongoing global epidemic, a 138-bedded corona ward with modern facilities has been
established in the new hospital building. It also has an ICU ward. The corona ward is being run by highly
qualified specialist doctors, nurses and ancillary staffs. A PCR Lab has also been setup in collaboration with
eminent donors. Total 18,724 patients have been given service till to date.
3. Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Medical College
Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Medical College is one of the prime & prestigious projects of
Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital. This Medical College was established in May'2006 (Session:
2005-2006) with 50 students with a view to provide medical education of international standard. Presently
total enrollment is 115 in each session and absolutely on merit basis.
We have an excellent set up of sufficient number of highly qualified and well experienced teachers with a
teacher-student ratio of 1:10 who are appointed as per rules of Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council &
Bangladesh Public Service Commission. There is separate website in the name of Medical College as per
Accreditation Act (www.cmoshmc.edu.bd) Meanwhile Thirteen batches of students have passed out and
working at various hospitals/medical colleges of home and abroad.
4. Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Institute of Child Health
The Chattogram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Institute of Child Health has been conducting the post-graduate
diploma course "Diploma in Child Health (DCH)" since 1997 and has got the approval of the Ministry of
Health & Family Welfare, Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical
University (BSMMU) and the University of Chattogram. In MD (Paediatrics) course 2 students have been
enrolled in 2021-2022 session.
5. Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Nursing Institute
Chattogram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Nursing Institute has been running its 3 years course curriculum on
“Diploma in Nursing Science & Midwifery” since 1989 and approved by the Bangladesh Nursing Council .
Total enrollment 50 students in each year as per merit. Many overseas trainers (Denmark, France, USA)
teach & train our nurses.
6. Shamsun Nahar Khan Nursing College
Shamsun Nahar Khan Nursing College is another prestigious project of Chattogram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital.
This college has been functioning since 2016-2017 with 22 students with a view to provide nursing education
of international standard. Every year 50 HSC passed students get enrollment . It’s approved by theChattogram
Medical University, University of Chattogram, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Bangladesh
Nursing Council.
7. Institute of Autism and Child Development
Institute of Autism and Child Development is approved by the University of Chattogram. It provides
services to the patients and produces manpower on child development.
8. Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Medical College Dental Unit
An inspection team from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has already visited the institution to
see the feasibility for permission of Dental Unit. All kinds of activities have already been completed for the
establishment of a Dental Unit in this institution. As per our application report of the inspection team
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has given Principle approval for setting up a CMOSH Dental Unit for
the academic year 2023-2024 with admission of students in 20 seats.
9. CMOSH Cancer Hospital and Research Institute
All kinds of activities of Cancer Institue has already started with modern necessary equipments.
We are vigilant about our student's academic activities. We are also lenient & cordial to them. We arrange
co-ordination meeting with students, guardian & teachers. To convert this entire campus into a complete
self-sufficient “Medical Village” providing one stop efficient services to all categories of people, rich or poor with
optimum satisfaction, so that none need to go out of Chattogram for medical services. Our master plan of
further development is in progress.
