Department
of Anatomy
COURSE INFORMATION
Course Offered
We offer a comprehensive 527-hour
course as part of the MBBS program, distributed over three terms, covering a
span of 1½ years. An additional 36 hours of integrated teaching are also
provided to ensure that students receive a well-rounded education, combining
theoretical knowledge with practical application to enhance their learning
experience during the initial stages of their medical studies.
Course objectives
At the end of the Anatomy course, the students
should be able to:
· Mention, identify, show, draw and describe the anatomical structure of the human body responsible for carrying out normal body functions
· Apply the acquired knowledge to understand and correlate the other pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical medical subjects
· Execute the acquired
knowledge of Anatomy with the knowledge of other medical subjects to provide
optimum health services in the country and abroad.
Course description
The Human Anatomy course provides an in-depth study of the
structures of the human body. Through a combination of lectures, dissections,
demonstrations, tutorials, and practical histology sessions, students will
explore the detailed anatomy of various body systems. The course also covers
surface anatomy and radiological anatomy (such as x-rays, ultrasonography, CT
scans, and MRI), linking theoretical knowledge with practical application. Key
areas of focus include embryology and genetics, which examine the development
of human embryos and fetuses, as well as histology, which studies the
microscopic structure of tissues and organs. The course emphasizes the clinical
relevance of anatomical knowledge, preparing students to apply this
understanding in medical practice to aid in diagnosis and treatment.

Facilities
Museum
Our well-equipped museum
spans 400 square feet. Here, a diverse array of anatomical specimens awaits
exploration, including human body viscera, dissected limbs, embryology models
depicting the developmental stages of human embryos, torsos illustrating the
anatomical structure of the human body, detailed models of various organs and
body parts, and skeletal specimens.
Dissection hall
The dissection hall spans 2,250
square feet and is well-equipped with a sufficient number of cadavers, viscera,
and bones. This facility provides an invaluable opportunity for students to
engage in hands-on learning by dissecting cadavers to study anatomy. Under the
guidance of experienced instructors, students can explore the intricate
structures of the human body in a detailed and practical manner.
Histology laboratory
The histology laboratory
covers an area of 663 square feet and is equipped with a sufficient number of
binocular and double-headed microscopes, providing students with the tools
necessary to study the microscopic anatomy of the human body. This state-of-the-art
facility includes an extensive collection of histological slides, offering a
wide range of specimens for detailed examination. The laboratory is designed to
support both individual and collaborative learning, allowing students to work
closely with their peers and instructors.
Classroom
The classroom spans 381
square feet and is designed to accommodate up to 30 students at a time,
providing an intimate and focused learning environment. This well-equipped
space includes all the necessary tools and technology for effective teaching
and learning.
